What the Health? is a new documentary from the creators of Cowspiracy. The film investigates why organizations such as The American Diabetes Association and The American Cancer Society don’t follow the incontrovertible scientific findings of organizations such as the World Health Organization.
Personally, I think that if I were to do a thorough fact-checking of both What the Health? and Cowspiracy that i could find a few half-truths, but their overall message is an important one: the organizations that we trust for information on our health and environment have substantial economic and political conflicts of interests which make the information that they provide highly questionable. Both films are also available on Netflix.
Also, most experts agree that protein supplements are unnecessary on a plant-based diet, but those who may not be getting enough calories may want to consider PlantFusion’s Complete Plant Protein to their green smoothies. This is a blend of pea, hemp, quinoa and other proteins. I add it to this simple smoothie recipe, which is adapted from a recipe that I sampled at Trader Joe’s:
Mango Green Smoothie
2 cups of plant-based milk such as unsweetened almond milk
2 Medjool dates, pitted
2 ripe bananas
2 large handfuls of fresh spinach
2 scoops of unsweetened PlantFusion Complete Protein powder
16 oz. frozen mangoes
Blend the dates into the milk in a high-powered blender. Add the bananas, spinach and protein powder and blend. Add the mangoes and blend until smooth.
